Offering a wide range of cruise options on Tweed River, Tweed Eco Cruises (TEC) brings you face-to-face with the region’s wealth of rainforest flora and fauna, historic riverside villages and locally sourced seafood and produce.
Pot to Plate Adventure, TEC’s latest experience, lets foodies sink their teeth into the region’s unique culinary delights. Passengers retrace the traditional hunting steps of the region’s first inhabitants with Bundjalung Nation descendent Luther ‘The Black Cockatoo’ Cora, visiting an oyster farm and learn from professional local crabber how he hunts for his catch. This exclusive cruise is limited to 15 guests and takes you deep into the Terranora Lakes mangrove system, known to locals as the heart of mud crab territory. The four-hour outing culminates with a sumptuous seafood harvest lunch.
Pot to Plate is only one of TEC’s cruise options. The two-hour Morning Tea Cruise gives an introduction to the region over tea and coffee, and includes a birds of prey feeding demonstration. The three-hour Crabs and Yabbies Tour celebrates the plentiful hauls of the mud crab heartland, as professional crabbers work and trap crustaceans in the picturesque surrounds of the Terranora lakes for you to sample. The four-and-a-half hour Tweed River and Rainforest Cruise passes rainforest riverbanks and sugarcane, includes a stopover visit to a riverside village and treats you to a barbecue or seafood lunch.
The 78-kilometre Tweed River is a resource-rich waterway with a highly valued and respected influence on the vitality of the Northern Rivers. From the surf-laden coast to the subtropical rainforest interior, all under the striking backdrop of Mount Warning, TEC showcases the best of this beautiful and historic region in a comfortable and interactive environment.
