Skyrail Rainforest Cableway is the ‘must see’ rainforest attraction in Tropical North Queensland, which will leave you with amazing memories that will last a lifetime. Your experience begins at either the Smithfield or Kuranda Terminal and takes you over and through World Heritage-listed tropical rainforest, in the Barron Gorge National Park. This fascinating, diverse area is one of the oldest continually surviving rainforests in the world – much older than even the Amazon!
Designed and implemented with minimal impact as a top priority, this ecofriendly attraction enables you to experience the rainforest without leaving so much as a footprint. The cableway spans 7.5 kilometres one way, with comfortable six-person gondolas gliding just metres above the canopy, providing spectacular views of the rainforest, tropical Cairns, the Coral Sea and the Cairns Highlands.
Tip: be sure to spend time at both stations along the way.
At Red Peak Station, Skyrail’s rangers provide guided boardwalk tours, sharing their knowledge of these ancient tropical rainforests among giant buttress roots, towering Kauri pines and climbing Wait-a-while palms. This tour is included in the ticket price and is a wonderful opportunity to ask questions, learn more about the area, and really immerse yourself in the rainforest. Tours depart regularly throughout the day.
Barron Falls Station has easy access walkways to three separate lookouts providing breathtaking views of the Barron Gorge and Falls. Here you can also visit the Rainforest Interpretation Centre, which Skyrail developed in conjunction with CSIRO to provide an informative and fun learning experience.
Skyrail is a premier tourist experience, which is accessible to people of all ages and abilities, providing guests with a truly unique rainforest experience, available nowhere else in the world.
Situated just 15 minutes from Cairns city centre and 50 minutes from Port Douglas, Skyrail is open every day from 9am, except Christmas Day. It is recommended that you allow 1.5 hours for a one-way experience and 2.5 hours for a return.
